The Cathar Country, a land of legends. 

The Cathar country is notably known for its numerous perched castles, its medieval abbeys as well as for the city of Carcassonne. Set amidst lush greenery, this region of the Languedoc is an area formerly occupied by the Cathars before they were forcibly removed for heresy. Vineyards, gorges and steep valleys form the backdrop to this medieval architecture.

Day 1 : Welcome to Carcassonne

We will meet you at the Carcassonne train station at a predetermined time before transferring you to your hotel in the old town. In the afternoon we will take the opportunity to introduce you to the program, adjust your bike and visit the Unesco medieval town of Carcassonne.

The peaceful tiny roads of the Corbieres massif will lead us into the heart of the Cathar Country. It is here that you find the “vertigo citadel” of Peyrepertuse which dominates the valley up to the charming village of Cucugnan.

Riding the beautiful twisting hills and crossing vineyards of the Cathar Country are pure joy. The day ends on the side of Queribus castle, one of the most impressive castle of the region.

Route: Option 1 : 50 km / 700 m Elevation Gain – Option 2 : 60 km / 900 m Elevation Gain

Riding the Fenouillèdes massif takes us at the entrance of the impressive Galamus Gorges, famously known for its ermitage. Then we cross the western part of the Cathar Country, a land that for centuries has been famous for its treasures and legends.

It’s the end of this bike tour in the Cathar Country with Veymont Travel. After breakfast your guide will take you to Carcassonne train station.
