THE TARN, A TERRITORY PUNCTUATED WITH VINEYARDS AND PERCHED VILLAGES. 

The Tarn is above all the sweetness of life so much its landscapes and its climate are pleasant. It is also a palette of colors oscillating between the red of the bricks of the old town of Albi, the blue of the river Tarn and the green of the Gaillac vineyard. Here small perched villages, the “Bastides” punctuate the horizon: Puycelsi, Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Cordes-sur-Ciel. Built between the 10th and 13th centuries on a precise and original plan, these villages respond to political and economic characteristics. As for the city of Albi, it straddles both banks of the Tarn river, offering visitors many points of view on its historical center: the Saint Cecile cathedral which is the largest brick cathedral in the world, but also the episcopal city, listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO

Day 1 : Welcome to Tarn

We will meet you at the Toulouse airport at a predetermined time before transferring you to your hotel in Gaillac. In the afternoon we will take the opportunity to introduce you to the program and adjust your bike and explore the surroundings.

Accomodation: Château de Tauziès 4* – Gaillac

After having skirted the Tarn river we cross it when we enter Gaillac, this city gave its name to the millennial vineyard. Through the countryside we continue towards Castelnau-de-Montmiral, its medieval alleys and the Place des Arcades. To conclude this day, the village of Puycelsi, which like Castelnau is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Today we take the direction of Cordes-sur-Ciel “the pearl of the bastides”. This medieval city and its alleys steeped in 800 years of history are the pride of the region. For the most greedy, do not leave without having tasted the specialty of the village: the croquant de Cordes!

Located on both banks of the Tarn river, Albi fascinates. Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, the episcopal city reveals architectural treasures. The Sainte Cécile cathedral impresses with its castle-like allure: the largest brick cathedral in the world, it is also the largest painted cathedral in Europe. The brick is the architectural signature of this urban ensemble that has become exemplary today. It is also the only heritage in Europe of this architectural model. It creates this singular urban atmosphere. It signs its identity, its particularity thanks to its palette of colors that vary according to the light.
